Single Side Laminating
Single sided lamination is quite similar to two sided lamination. But there are some variables involved in one sided lamination that wouldn’t matter for two sided laminating. Unlike two sided laminating sheets must be overlapped while going through the laminator to protect the heat rollers and pressure rollers from transferring adhesive to your print.
How does this affect your printing?
Sheets that are to be laminated single side cannot be cut to final size prior to laminating. Sheets must have a ½” bleed on all four sides in order to have proper overlapping. Minimum sheet size for single side laminating is 13” x 20.” Certain lamination thickness cannot be ran one sided. When laminate film is heated up and tension is applied it can cause it to have an up or down curl depending where the unequal brake tension lies. This is true for two sided laminating and half true for one sided laminating. Brake tension is applied equally to the top and bottom of a two sided laminator to correct this problem but on a one sided it laminator it has no counterpart to match the tension. In this case we run the web over a curl bar to help with curl but we also use a special film called Lay Flat. Lay Flat film has very little elasticity so when applied to you print it will not want to shrink back to its previous state. In the end process our goal is to having your job lying flat.
